The Giant Killers
TRANMERE ROVERS
Tranmere's has been a history spent largely in the lower divisions since being founder members of the Northern section of the Third Division in 1921 with a solitary year in the second tier immediately prior to World War Two. Tranmere continued to move between the third and newly created fourth tiers in the thirty years after the war until a team was built that not only moved back into the second tier but missed out on promotion to the top flight through the play-offs three years in succession in the early 90s while the first decade of the 21st Century has seen them reach the last eight in the cup three times, scalping a clutch of top flight clubs on the way. However Tranmere's biggest cupset dates back to 1968 when they spanned three divisions to beat Coventry.
