The Giant Killers
PETERBOROUGH UNITED
Peterborough remain one of the Football League's younger teams, having only been formed in 1934. By the late 1950s they proved they had outgrown the Midland League, winning it year on year and coupled it with impressive performances against League opposition in the cup. That got them noticed by the Football League chairmen who, a little surprisingly elected Posh to the League in 1960. The Fourth Division proved easy at the first attempt, putting Posh into the third tier, where most of their existence since has been spent, barring brief forays into the second tier. Great cup days have been thin on the ground in recent years with Peterborough's great days being the '50s and '60s, most notably a quarter final run that saw Arsenal dumped out along the way.
