The Giant Killers
HUDDERSFIELD TOWN
Huddersfield's golden age was the 1920s when, under Herbert Chapman they becamethe first club to win three consecutive titles in 1924-1926. Amazingly the club, formed in 1907 and who made their top flight debut in 1920 had never been champions before and have never been champions since, playing their last top flight game in 1972. The thirty plus years since have seen the club play in the second, third and fourth tiers of the English game. In the cup Huddersfield made their mark before reaching the top flight when playing in the 1920 final while still in the second tier. Two years later Billy Smith's penalty against Preston brought the cup to Leeds Road for the only time. Huddersfield's golden era of the twenties naturally brught with it cup humiliation in 1927 against Millwall but worse followed in 1934 when Northampton won at Leeds Road. The post war generation weren't spared either when humiliated by West Ham in 1954 but within a decade the club had turned giant killer when humbling the mighty Wolves in 1961.
