The Giant Killers
EXETER CITY
Born in 1904 out of a merger of Exeter United and St Sidwells, Exeter City first entered the F A cup in 1909 as a Southern League outfit, clocking up a club record 14-0 victory that still stands in their first ever cup tie. Entry as original members of Division Three followed in 1920 but The Grecians were never able to break into the second tier and became founder members of Division Four in 1958. Most of Exeter's history has seen them in these two divisions before hitting their lowest ebb with relegation to The Conference [level five] in 2004. Exeter's cup history centres around two great runs fifty years apart that took the club to the quarter finals on each occasion with a five goal thriller against Derby in 1931 as the stand out result.
