The Giant Killers
BRISTOL CITY
Bristol South End first entered the F A cup in 1895, reaching the first round proper three years later as City. The club joined the Football League in 1901, securing their first victory over a top flight club in the cup in 1903 and before the decade was out City were a top flight club themselves and reached the cup final in 1909, losing to Sandy Turnbull's goal for Manchester United. Relegation in 1911 was followed by a drop into the lower divisions in the 1920s with City not returning to the big tme until 1976. Their stay was brief with relegation in 1980 again leading to a slide all the way to the fourth division three years later. In the cup City produced a huge shock in beating Portsmouth in 1935 but it's their 1974 victory at champions elect, Leeds United that stands out with modern fans.
