The Giant Killers
BRIGHTON & HOVE ALBION
Brighton were formed in 1901 with their greatest moment being their helicopter fuelled appearance in the cup final of 1983 where a golden chance was squandered and saw the Seagulls hammered in the replay. As a non league club Brighton's first great day in the cup had been back in 1908 when Preston were disposed of at the third time of asking. The Seagulls were original members of the Third Division in 1920, which was where they stayed until gaining promotion to the second tier in 1961. Albion then dropped down into the fourth tier before their rise in the 70s, which clminated with the Seagulls hitting the big time in 1979. They remained there for just four years with relegation coming in the same season as their cup final. Curiously perhaps Brighton's biggest cup upset came just a year after playing in the cup final when, as a second tier club they knocked champions Liverpool out of the cup in front of the Kop.
